Let's get rid of that back seat!

The Goose Gear 60% Rear Seat Delete Plate System is one of those upgrades I wish I’d done sooner. It takes that awkward, mostly useless backseat and turns it into a seriously functional setup without compromising the Jeep's rugged utility. If you’re someone who actually uses your Jeep for adventures, overlanding, or just making the most out of the space you’ve got, this thing is a game-changer.

Installation : Surprisingly Straightforward

So, the install was shockingly easy. Goose Gear designed this thing to bolt right into the factory anchor points, so no drilling, chopping, or anything crazy like that. If you’re someone who values being able to reverse your mods, you’ll appreciate that this setup can be completely removed and the seats reinstalled if you ever need them again. That said, calling it “permanent” is definitely misleading.

The most challenging part? Getting the factory seat bolts out. Jeep loves using super-strong thread locker on these things, so breaking them loose required some serious muscle. I found that running the factory bolts in and out a couple of times before starting the install helped clean up the threads and made the final assembly way easier. Anti-seize on the new bolts is a smart move, too.

Once the seats are out, the Goose Gear system drops in like it was meant to be there. Everything lines up perfectly with the factory holes, and the install hardware is top-notch. Just slide the legs onto the under-plate extrusions, line everything up, and tighten it down. It’s simple, clean, and solid.

Build Quality & Design

Goose Gear doesn’t mess around when it comes to quality. This thing’s built with industrial-grade plywood coated with their proprietary spray finish, which feels like it could survive an apocalypse. It’s tough, durable, and looks pretty damn good.

The platform has a locking storage access door giving you about 6 inches of under-platform storage. That’s prime real estate for tools, recovery gear, camera gear and whatever you need to keep out of sight but within reach. And the best part? It doesn't affect legroom for the front seats. You can still push the front seats all the way back with no issues.

What You Might Not Like

Alright, let’s get real for a second. There are a few things that might make you pause.

  • Weight Considerations: The Goose Gear platform itself is lightweight at around 20 lbs, but if you’re loading it up with heavy gear, the weight adds up. You’ll want to keep an eye on your vehicle’s payload capacity, especially if you’re already hauling a fridge, camping gear, or other essentials. My Jeep is a Mojave which has a pretty low payload capacity so it's something I do consider!

  • “Permanent” Seat Removal: I’m putting “permanent” in quotes here because you can totally remove the Goose Gear system and reinstall the factory seats if you ever need them. But still, if you’re the type who wants to switch back and forth between passengers and gear, just know it’s not something you’re going to do every weekend.

  • Cost: Look, this thing isn’t cheap. But quality gear rarely is. For me, the utility and durability were worth it. Just be prepared to shell out some cash for what is essentially the gold standard in rear seat deletes.

The Verdict

The Goose Gear 60% Rear Seat Delete Plate System is one of those mods that just makes sense if you’re serious about using your Gladiator for more than just a grocery-getter. It’s simple to install, built to last, and incredibly useful for overlanders, weekend warriors, or anyone trying to maximize storage and organization.

Plus, it’s a perfect fit for my setup. I’ve installed a standalone 300a power system in mine, which I'll talk about in a future post!
